Once again, The Anonymous Theatre Company is gracing the stage in Portland for one night only. On August 13th, they will be performing Shakespeare’s most popular romantic comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Their annual performance will take place on Portland Center Stage at The Armory’s main stage.
Founded in 2002, Anonymous Theatre is renowned for its unique, secretive process. Actors aren’t allowed to discuss auditions, reveal their part in performances to family or friends or know the identities of their co-stars. Rehearsals take place solely with the director. On the night of the performance, cast members dress in street clothes to blend in with the audience. They read their opening line from their seats, shocking theatre-goers and bringing the full performance to life for the first time.
Anonymous Theatre has primarily held productions in the Gerding Theatre at The Armory in Portland, Oregon, but has also performed in various other venues across the globe. Their past productions include Urinetown The Musical, The Crucible and You Can’t Take It With You, among many others. Anonymous Theatre brings an electric energy to the stage with its once-a-year, top-secret performances—an energy that shouldn’t be missed.
