Thank you so much for joining us as we kick off NW Dance Project’s exciting 14th season — we hope you enjoy our “company of slick, skilled dancers.” (The New Yorker)
This show is truly special and marks friendships old and new, as well as fresh beginnings and a fond farewell.
With the world premiere of You Are All I See, we celebrate the long-awaited and happy return to NW Dance Project of Wen Wei Wang, one of Canada’s most accomplished and acclaimed choreographers whose work is seen around the world. Wen Wei first created for us in 2009 and then again in 2012, and we think you’ll agree that Wen Wei has created his most beautiful and memorable work yet.
And we are not waiting long to share it further — in just three weeks, it will be included on our touring performance in Long Beach, California.
You’ll see two new dancers featured tonight. We are thrilled to have new company members Katherine Disenhof and Anthony Pucci making their NW Dance Project debuts tonight and we are sure you will recognize their talents and artistry.
Bittersweetly, these shows mark the final NW Dance Project performances for our beloved dancer, teacher, dynamo, prolific sneezer, and goodwill ambassador Ching Ching Wong. After seven amazing years gracing our studios and stages, winning a prestigious Princess Grace Award, and being named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch,” Ching Ching is heading for new adventures in dance that will take her all over the world (and hopefully back from time to time). Please join us in thanking her for sharing her singular artistry and wishing her well on her upcoming journeys.
NW Dance Project remains dedicated to commissioning, creating, and premiering significant new contemporary dance works in Portland — over 250 since our inception in 2004 — while celebrating the creativity and invention of exceptional dancers and dance makers. We believe tonight’s performance will “knock your socks off” — as The Oregonian has noted our shows will do, and I think you’ll agree with the Calgary Herald that we have “some of the best dancers you will ever see.”
We hope you will join us for the remainder of our 2017-18 season. If you are not a subscriber yet, you can get your special three-show subscription for just $150 and enjoy all of our subscriber perks such as priority seating at the lowest price, full ticket exchange privileges, and exclusive invites to our opening night artists’ receptions and other special events throughout the season.
It’s going to be an inspired and inspiring year of dance. We hope you will be with us to experience each and every stunning step.
For now, we thank you again for being here and we hope you enjoy the show. We appreciate your support of great original dance made right in Portland and of NW Dance Project!
